Jason Brewer hit a home run and Alex Bailey tossed a complete game in the Stoughton Merchants’ 8-1 East Night League win over Cambridge on Tuesday, July 25, at Norse Park.

The victory snapped a four-game Night League losing streak for Stoughton.

The Merchants (2-5 East) scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab an 8-0 lead. Brewer highlighted the inning by hitting a three-run homer with two outs to make it 8-0.

Eric Venegas went 3-for4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Yan Venegas scored twice out of the leadoff spot to go along with one hit.

Bailey pitched all seven innings on the mound, giving up one run on six hits. He walked just two batters and struck out three.

Cambridge got its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Merchants outhit the Blues, 9-6.

Stoughton ends Night League play against Utica on Thursday, Aug. 3, in Cambridge. Both teams enter the season-finale with 2-5 records.
